A 1.5 to 2 months.
If your pet already has a microchip and has since received a rabies vaccination, you may be able to depart earlier.
However, if you plan to return to Japan, we recommend that you have your pet tested for rabies before departing. This is because even if you do return to Japan, you will not be able to do so until 180 days after the rabies test.
If you return to Japan without an antibody titer test, you will be required to quarantine your pet for 180 days, and it will not be able to leave the detention facilities at Japanese airports. It also costs approximately 4,000 yen per night, which is quite expensive. For this reason, we recommend that you have your pet undergo a rabies antibody titer test in Japan before departing, just in case you need to return to Japan. Rabies antibody titer tests are valid for two years. If you have received a bridge vaccination within the expiration date of the rabies vaccination in the UK, you will be exempt from the 180-day quarantine as long as you return to Japan within two years of the rabies antibody titer test.
